Couch to 5K

In order to tear yourself away from the couch and start hitting the pavement, you should ease into your running program gradually…The AWG Couch to 5K beginners' program is less of a running regimen than a walking and jogging program. The idea is to transform you from couch potato to runner, getting you running three miles (or 5K) on a regular basis in just two months. The training consists of meeting as a group twice a week, and then expects participants to log at least one other training each week.  Each class involves a good stretch and running tips for race day!

Going the Distance

This 9-week program is designed to help increase cardiovascular endurance to start tackling some of those more advanced races and/or improve your running performance and speed.  Enjoy fun runs starting at 3 miles and gradually increasing to 6 miles, speed and agility training, hill-specific strength work, and lots of great tips and articles related to being the best runner you can be!

*Participants must have completed the Couch to 5K training, or be able to run a comfortable 3 miles faster than a 13-minute mile pace,  in order to sign up for this program.

Train to Maintain

Have you accomplished a goal this past Summer or Fall of running your first 5K, 10K or even a Half Marathon? Are you afraid that you might lose your endurance and strength over the cold winter months? Then you need to join the AWG Train to Maintain program, being held at the Midtown Studio on Wednesday and Fridays from 5:30am to 6:30am! The class is designed to maintain your body for running, by using agility and plyometric exercises, as well as strength training to ensure that you stay conditioned and motivated, to compete in Spring races – ready to cross the finish line with an improved time and confidence!

 

Fitness 4 Focus

Absolute Wellness Group is proud to introduce Chris Russell, owner of Fitness 4 Focus©.   Chris has an extensive background in health, fitness and working with children with special needs.

fitness4focusFitness 4 Focus© strives to promote a healthier and happier individual in all who walk through our doors. Participants enjoy and benefit from both individual and group activities. Physical activity has been shown to improve all areas of development. Workout sessions are tailored with parental input, to the needs of each individual so that all children get the most out of our activities.

Typical workout sessions will last 45 minutes. Parents are welcome to stay or even participate. All sessions will begin with a greeting and relaxed warm-up, while group sessions additionally open with a socially oriented approach. Next, will be the exercise phase, consisting of: weight training, calisthenics, and cardiovascular activities. This will be followed by a short break period, and then we will move on to the game phase. Lastly, the session will conclude with cool down and farewell.

CONSULTATION AND PRICING

We begin with a thorough consultation with the parent(s) and child. The consultation fee is $50 per child. If the family commits to signing up for 10 sessions, the consultation will be reduced to $25.
The purpose of the consultation is to determine if the child is able to be in a large group atmosphere, smaller group atmosphere, or individual session. The consultation will also give us a good understanding of the child's physical abilities in order to develop a custom strategic work out plan.

  • A group session for 4 to 5 children is $20 per hour/per child.
  • A group of 2 to 3 children is $25 per hour/per child.
  • An individual session varies.

Programs for Kids

Our goal is to provide safe, effective physical activity programs to help get kids moving today!

 

As in school physical education programs continue to be affected by budget cutbacks, parents and teachers need to think creatively about how to get their kids moving.

We at Absolute Wellness Group feel passionately about childhood obesity and helping this growing problem. We have designed a series of fitness and nutrition programs to reach each age group. Our goal is to teach students the long term dangers of being overweight and the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle.

Our curriculum is based on the Operation Fit Kids program from the American Council on Exercise. Each lesson, for all grade levels, will combine fitness and nutrition education. Please see the program goals below for specifics on our curriculum.

Programs for Kids Grades K-2
Children in this age group will learn about healthy snacking and how different foods can affect your energy level and mood.  Exercise for this age group will focus on healthy, active play.  We will also work on rudimentary sports skills.

Programs for Kids Grades 3-5
In this program we aim to teach kids how to experience a lifetime of good health.  Nutrition goals include learning about the USDA Food Pyramid, understanding how specific food choices can effect your body composition, and elementary education about nutrients. Students will learn how even moderate exercise can help to prevent obesity and disease.  They will try samples of various exercise formats and how each can keep you fit and improve your self image.

Programs for Kids in 6-8 Grades
Students in this program will continue learning about healthy and nutritious habits. A more in-depth analysis of nutrients and food choices will be integral. Our focus for the fitness portion is to explore and practice a wide variety of exercise formats. Students will learn how exercise can effect health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and /or social interaction.
